Can someone give us a break!!!!!
Worked for a company for many years as a supervisor and wanted to apply for a open managers job. I was told that I could not be a manager in the same station that I worked. At the same time the position was open and then closed five different times. Over the past years I had meet many people throught out the U.S. I was beyond shocked to find that the company had placed many supervisors into managers positions in their own stations. The company then told me that this was a policy but they have nothing in any of their handbooks that stops a person from doing so. I was told that it would not happen, not to even apply. I did the right thing and called the hr manager. I was told that that person was no longer the hr manager and that someone in the training dept was taking over. After a few months of trying to get that person to call me back I found out that the company had hired a new hr manager again I called the V P of human rescources and got no call back. I worked my tail off and wanted the chance to apply for a job to better myself and my partner. I would have been the only gay station manager in the company and a great one!!!!!!

sorry i was typing that with tears in my eyes!!!!!
Yeah, but
Dude, I'm sorry about your job, but you seem to be asserting, or at least implying that you didn't get the job because you're gay--yet nothing in your post suggest that you were discriminated against, other than the fact that you identify as gay.
If you think you've been discriminated against, you need to establish the basis of that discrimination, and prove that you do in fact meet the requirements of the job. It's not even clear that you applied for the job, from your post.
IANAL, but there are several Federal statues as well as statutes in Maine state law to protect victims against a variety of discrimination. You might google "Maine discrimination law" to start.
At that same time, you need to closely examine your work record. What are your evaluations from supervisors like? Do you not only meet but exceed expectations? That's generally a basic criteria for any kind of advancement.
If you have a case, then you need to file as soon as possible. You need to have documentation of meetings, etc. as well, even if it's just dates and times in your own personal notes of what went down.
